Laser Gum Contouring

Reshape your smile

“Gummy” smiles and small-or short-looking teeth can detract from an otherwise perfect smile. For patients who have a prominent gum line that is obscuring their teeth, laser gum contouring, sometimes referred to as a “gum lift,” can be an effective cosmetic treatment. The procedure uses a laser to safely reshape your gum line and provide an overall more balanced appearance. Drs. Eddy Sauer and Nathaniel Avirett offer gum contouring at our Amarillo, TX, office. The procedure is quick and virtually painless, and the results can be fully enjoyed within days of leaving our office.

Benefits of

Laser Contouring

The advent of laser technology has impacted many aspects of modern dentistry. This safe and effective treatment offers many benefits over traditional scalpel-based contouring:

Asset 5

Greater Precision

Lasers allow for better and more precise contouring than a scalpel.

Asset 6

Instant Results

The outpatient procedure requires only a brief visit to our office.

Faster Recovery

Because the procedure is minimally invasive and does not require sutures, recovery time is short. Slight soreness and swelling may last up to a week.

Asset 5

Minimal Bleeding

As the laser gently removes excess gum tissue, it simultaneously cauterizes the gums, thereby cutting down on bleeding and inflammation.

Laser gum contouring is quick and virtually
painless, and the results can be fully enjoyed within days of leaving our office.

Am I a

Candidate?

Candidates for laser gum contouring are in good oral health and do not have any conditions that compromise their immune system. Beyond that, candidates typically have uneven gum lines, protruding gums, or short teeth. Patients who undergo gum contouring can also benefit from pairing the procedure with other cosmetic treatments, such as porcelain veneers and teeth whitening treatments. One of our doctors can discuss the benefits of combining cosmetic treatments during your initial visit.

What to Expect

During the Procedure

One of our doctors will begin your procedure by numbing the treatment area with a local anesthetic. If you experience dental phobia, we may also recommend oral conscious sedation or nitrous oxide. Then, using a soft tissue diode laser, he will gently remove excess gum tissue using a narrow beam of light. As the laser vaporizes the tissue, it also seals the incisions. Light soreness may last for a week but should not interfere with eating or speaking. Our doctors generally recommend eating soft foods at first. If you experience prolonged discomfort, over-the-counter pain relievers should be all that is needed.
